Lost a Ring at Mondo's Beach?

A longtime local surf spot north of town, and the site of one of my hardest water recoveries.

What this beach is like to search

Mondo's is a cobble-and-sand break where the bottom drops off quickly. Rings lost while swimming here end up in genuinely deep water, which makes tide timing everything. I recovered a 40-year-old wedding ring here in the dark at a minus tide, waist-deep, with the beach buried in seaweed.

Tell me the time of day

It sounds like a small detail and it's the most useful thing you can give me. With the hour you lost it, I can pull the tide chart for that day and work out where the waterline actually was — which is frequently a long way from where the water sits when you call.

And don't rake the sand

I know the instinct is to start digging. Please don't. Raking and sifting moves the ring deeper and sideways, and it erases the one thing that made the search winnable: knowing where it was.

A recovery at Mondo's Beach

A 40-year wedding ring, six feet deep at Mondo's Beach

Denise felt her ring slip off while swimming in about six feet of water. I searched at 3:30 in the morning at a minus tide, in the dark, with the beach buried in seaweed.

How a beach search actually goes

I run a Minelab Manticore with a long-handled CKG sand scoop. I mark out the likely area based on what you've told me, then grid it in overlapping parallel passes — the same discipline that turns up old coins on well-used beaches, which is always a good sign, because it means nobody has detected the area in years.

In the water, depth and timing are everything. On dry sand it's usually about defining the area tightly enough. Either way, the process is the same: careful phone call, methodical search, honest conversation about money before anything starts.

A $75 call-out fee covers travel whether or not I find it. If I do find it, you set the reward.
