Summerland's small, quiet beach and the bluff at Lookout Park are easy ground to search well — and close enough to Loon Point that I usually check both.

Small beaches are a gift. When the search area is measured in yards instead of hundreds of yards, the odds go way up.
If it went into the water
I search land and shallow water, and the tide decides everything. Tell me the time of day it happened and I can work backwards from the tide chart to figure out where the waterline actually was — which is often nowhere near where you'd guess. I've started a search at 3:30 in the morning because that was when the minus tide let me reach the spot.
What I bring
A Minelab Manticore detector, a long-handled CKG sand scoop, a pinpointer, and a methodical overlapping grid rather than a wander. On grass I cut small plugs that go straight back so the turf recovers without a trace.
What you can do before I arrive
Stop looking, and don't disturb the area. Raking sand or combing grass with your fingers relocates the ring — usually deeper and sideways — and destroys the one piece of information that mattered most.
